Description
"Duke Joseph Frederick (1702-87) is depicted wearing military uniform with the insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the star of Maria Theresa. He was the younger son of Frederick Ernest, duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen. He joined the Hapsburg army when he was 16 years old and had a successful military career, being promoted to field marshal in 1744. In 1739, the Emperor Charles VI appointed him a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece."
