Summary[edit]

Description
English: On June 27, 1949, former Japanese soldiers detained in Siberia were to return to Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, on the Takasago Maru. The United States, which was afraid that communism, the so-called "red", would spread to Japan as they returned to Japan after receiving Soviet propaganda, emphasized this event. Carl Mydans had been to the Korean Peninsula, so he decided to talk to Miki after pondering who would shoot the news. Upon arriving in Maizuru, Miki released the Rolleiflex shutter, crazy about the appearance of the returning soldiers on the deck and the appearance of disembarkation. Then, I called out to one of the returning soldiers, followed him to his home in Kyoto, and even photographed him running water in the garden to create a story. Immediately after sending the photo to "LIFE", I received a reply saying "I want to use the photographer's name because it will be used for the opening function. Please get permission. "The July 18, 1949 issue of "LIFE" in the United States was titled "Japan's Red Army gets back home" and featured 18 photographs on 7 pages with the signature of photographer Jun Miki.
