Rev. Dr. Tuttle-Smith Dead. Was Army Chaplain In Civil War and Won Several Medals. The Rev. Dr. James Tuttle-Smith. Rector Emeritus of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, died on Sunday at his home, Oatland, Ridgefield, Connecticut, in his eightieth year. He was born in this city on July 6, 1831, and was a graduate of the General Theological Seminary and Columbia University. As a young man he served in the Seventh Regiment and during the civil war he was a Chaplain in the United States Army. Dr. Tuttle-Smith was for three years a curate in the Church of the Transfiguration, and afterward founded the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, of which he was Rector for 23 years. He was a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the Order of Bolivar of Venezuela, the Academy of Sciences, the St. Nicholas Society, and the Union League Club.
