Summary
[edit]DescriptionJames Madison's Montpelier backyard October 2009.jpg |
English: The house appears a stately mansion now, but much of the time Madison and Dolly lived there, it was a duplex. They lived in one side, and Madison's mother had rights to live in the other side until her death. After his presidency, Madison returned home and lived in the duplex for a number of years before combining the duplexes visually, to achieve the look we see now. Still, the house operated like a duplex, though, with his mother having her kitchen in the cellar on the left, and Dolly having her kitchen in the cellar on the right. |
