| Description |
English: As seen in August 2022, the footbridge seen here leads from the rear parking lot of the Municipal Building on Main Street to Island Park in Williamsville, New York. As its name suggests, the park is located on a four-and-a-half-acre man-made island in Ellicott Creek that was created in 1834 when a raceway was dug to channel creek water to Dodge Mill, which once stood at the corner of Main and Mill Streets and burned down in 1894. According to county records, the island was at first part of the premises of the St. Charles Hotel and then owned by the Gerhard Lang Brewery, but remained undeveloped until 1912, when the village government leased it for use as a park. (They have owned the land outright since 1929.) Now one of the most well-used green spaces in the village, Island Park plays host to such popular annual events as the Taste of Williamsville and the village's three-day Old Home Days festivities. |
