n maketiles eminently appropriate in the receptionhall. Here is more or less eager scrutinizingto be withstood, and here are to be given earlyimpressions of the house interior. The tiled hallstands the closest scrutiny and gives the im-pression of sterling excellence, and of adequacy. It is because of its attractiveness that tile-work is so highly favored, and tiling in thereception hall proclaims appreciation of beautyand fitness. The tiled floor here testifies to goodtaste, and to a sense of relative values prompt-ing the choice of a material at once dignifiedand pleasing, and durable and serviceable. The tiled reception hall knows no superior;its traditions and history give to it the securityof place. There are of course many questions asto the hall of the new house, and a wide choiceof tile treatments is available, but the decisionto use tiles is fundamentally and architecturallyright. The tiled hall has the approval ofprecedent and of having given long andcontinuous satisfaction.
