ed with his brother-in-law in business forthree years, at the end of which, in September, 1898,he came to Idaho, settling in the town of Peck whichat that time did not even boast a railroad connectionwith the outer world. Here Mr. Lakin engaged inthe cattle business doing much in the shipping line,and he was identified with this line of enterprise fora period of seven years, at the same time running aranch in Nez Perce county. Eventually he disposedof his ranch, his cattle business and his South Da-kota properties and engaged in the flour business.In 1902 he built his present flour mill which is equippedwith the largest steel motor wheel in the world. Thiswheel was manufactured and built in Hanover, Penn-sylvania. Mr. Lakin has just installed a private elec-tric plant for the use of the mill and for lighting hisown and his sons home. In view of the splendid success that has resultedfrom Mr. Lakins intense activity and enterprise, itis interesting to note at this point that he received
