the General Assembly is required todivide the State into senatorial districts. The boun-daries of the present districts, however, were fixed bythe present Constitution, and have not been changed.No parish except Orleans can be divided in the forma-tion of a senatorial district, and the total number ofSenators cannot exceed 41, nor fall below 36. Thepresent number is 39. 204. Judicial Districts.—These districts are laidout for the sessions of the various courts of the State.Their boundaries are fixed by the Constitution, butmay be changed by the General Assembly. 205. Levee Districts.—As much of the alluvial t 174 CIVIL GOVERNMENT OF LOUISIANA land of Louisiana is subject to overflow, a number oflevee districts have been created by acts of the Gen-eral Assembly. Within these districts there areboards of Levee Commissioners, appointed by theGovernor, and authorized to levy a special tax uponthe inhabitants for the maintenance and repair of thelevees. (See under Taxation, Chap, XIIL)
