Text[edit]

Hiram Conibear, Rowing Coach. Seattle, Washington; September 10, 1918. Hiram Conibear, a famous rowing coach, for ten years in charge of the rowing crews of the University of Washington, was killed in a fall from a plum tree in the rear of his home near the university. Mr. Conibear differed from the coaches of rowing at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and other universities in that his knowledge of aquatics was limited when he commenced his duties ten years ago.
