Description
English: Harry Griggs (31 Aug, 1925- 6 March, 2004) was originally from Waterbury, Connecticut. He was descended from a long line of Protestant ministers including Rev. Leverett Griggs. Harry (Henry L. Griggs Jr.) had a mother named Harriet Aiken Griggs (1897-1974) who was originally from Pittsburgh.

In 1949, he graduated from Yale University in New Haven, CT, after serving in World War II. In Hartford, CT he worked first at the Hartford Courant as a reporter. In 1963, Harry started working for NBC Nightly News in Washington, DC with David Brinkley and Chet Huntley. After 1970, he continued as a TV news producer in the NBC News office (Rockefeller Plaza) which is in New York City. He worked with John Chancellor. Later on, he worked with Tom Brokaw and Lester Crystal. From 1985-1988, he was deputy bureau chief of the London office of NBC News. The London office was four blocks from The British Museum. He retired from NBC News in 1993. Harry Griggs appeared briefly in the 2003 documentary "The Fog of War" which won an Oscar. He married Lynne Patrick Griggs (1932- 1993) in 1953 in Madison, CT, and had three children with her. Mrs. Lynne Griggs was a graduate of Rogers Hall, a girls school in Lowell, Massachusetts.

His son, Henry L. Griggs III is married to Jill Abramson, author of Strange Justice and The Puppy Diaries.
