Summary[edit]

Description
English: Henry Graves Bull lived here Close by the home of Alfred Watkins is the house of Dr Henry Graves Bull (1818-1885), another eminent son of Hereford. Described on his plaque simply as 'naturalist' he was much more: his day job was as a physician at Hereford Infirmary but apart from that he was a keen member, and sometime president, of The Woolhope Club, a Herefordshire society that, since 1851, has studied and recorded all aspects of the natural and local history, archaeology, geology and folklore of the county. With a colleague, Dr Robert Hogg, Henry Bull was responsible for compiling The Herefordshire Pomona, a comprehensive catalogue of apples and pears, many varieties of which were already already beginning to disappear. The volumes, illustrated by Bull's own daughter Edith and Alice Ellis, began to appear in 1878 and were only printed in a limited number, thus possessing great rarity value today.
