Description
English: This is a relief sculpture that depicts the biblical story of the beheading of John the Baptist. It was created for the interior decoration of the Holy Cross Church (Kreuzkirche) in Düsseldorf around 1910 by Gregor von Bochmann (1878 - 1914). In addition the artist produced many other bronze reliefs also depicting biblical scenes for the church. The artwork still adorns the church's interior. Here is some literature documenting this work: (1) Die Kreuzkirche in Düsseldorf, booklet written by Pastor E. Rose (printed by Fr. Dietz, before 1915); (2) Article in the journal Die Kirche, June 1913; (3) 1910-1060 : Kreuzkirche zu Düsseldorf (commemorative booklet prepared by the parish of the Kreuzkirche).
