The approximate positions of competitors in the 1968/69 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race as of December 25, 1968. Moitessier was steadily gaining on Knox-Johnston; Tetley had a lavish but lonely Christmas dinner; by this time, Crowhurst was reporting himself to be "off Cape Town".

This image was constructed from a public domain Visible Earth product of the Earth Observatory office of the United States government space agency NASA. It is based on a cylindrical equi-distant projection.
