Wilson High School is located about 15 miles east of Los Angeles, in the unincorporated community of Hacienda Heights. Founded in 1968, the school has seen a sharp increase in students of Asian background over the decades, and is extremely academically competitive. I am visiting on a warm Saturday afternoon as the high school holds a fundraiser. Stacy Ann Ferguson, who is the lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas and is usually known by her stage name Fergie, is a graduate of Wilson High School. This is the band room. Wilson High School has one of the best marching band programs among Southern California high schools, and here are some trophies won by the band. I know Wilson's reputation too well, as when I was in high school 20 years ago, I played for a key competitor to Wilson High School. |
