Summary[edit]

Description
English: Portrait of George Hairston II, known as 'Old Rusty,' by the American painter James Westhall Ford, dated 1858. George Hairston II graduated from Princeton in 1805 and married Louisa Hardyman, who was a ward of President John Tyler. Hairston first lived at Marrowbone Plantation in Henry County, but later built Hordsville Plantation house, on the site owned earlier (and named for) Mordecai Hord. Hairston served in the Virginia legislature, and was a founder of the Smith River Navigation Company and the Union Iron Works. He is buried at Hordsville. Private collection.
