Description
English: Garnet in rhyolite from the Tertiary of Nevada, USA. (~5.4 centimeters across at its widest)

Nevada's Garnet Hill is a famous collecting site with occasional almandine garnets in cavities in rhyolite. The cavities (lithophysae) are normally lined with finely-crystalline quartz. The almandine is very dark red colored with well-developed crystal faces.

Geologic unit: Garnet Hill Rhyolite, Late Eocene, 36-37 Ma

Locality: Garnet Hill, northwest of the town of Ely & east of the town of Ruth, Robinson Mining District, central Egan Range, White Pine County, eastern Nevada, USA (vicinity of 39° 17' 04.07" North latitude, 114° 56' 52.16" West longitude)
