Summary[edit]
DescriptionFundamental Library of the Volhynia Theological Seminary (24191384863).jpg |
English: The Volhynia Theological Seminary was founded in 1796. It is a Ukrainian Orthodox Church institution. It was moved several times in the 1800s, and by the mid 1800s, when it was located in the small Ukrainian town of Kremenets, it was one of the largest institutions of its kind in the Ukraine area. In 1939, after Kremenets was annexed by the Soviet Union as a result of the Nazi-Soviet pact, the seminary was closed. After the war in 1945, the seminary reopened in Lutsk, Ukraine. In 1964 it ceased operations once more as a result of Khruschev’s anti-Church policies. In 1990 the Lutsk theological school was opened, and after receiving the status of a theological seminary a year later, would become the modern-day Volhynia Theological Seminary. This book stamp is from a book looted by the Nazis and sorted by Colonel Seymour Pomrenze, one of “the Monuments Men,” at the Offenbach Archival Depot. |
