Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The French island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean is currently going through its worst drought since 1997. As a result, the island's two reservoirs are almost completely dry, at less than 10% of their capacity. This has led to a significant water deficit on the island, affecting the daily lives of its inhabitants. The local town of Mamoudzou is now under water restrictions due to this dire situation. On 28 October, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites acquired this image of the city of Mamoudzou in Mayotte. The Copernicus product portfolio includes two Drought Observatories, managed by the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, which provide, respectively, drought indicators and early warning for droughts in Europe (EDO) and worldwide (GDO).
