Notes Caption from the Catalogo Generale dei Beni Culturali: "Registrato negli inventari casertani con la denominazione "Principessa Far nese", il quadro ritrae senza dubbio Margherita Jolanda di Savoia (1635 - 1663), figlia di Vittorio Amedeo I e Cristina di Francia (detta "Madama Re ale"), che nel 1660 sposò Ranuccio II Farnese. Questo dipinto potrebbe es sere una replica di un quadro di F. Denys, nonché di un altro coevo ritratto della duchessa, anch'esso alla Reggia di Caserta, di dimensioni ben più grandi, oltre che più ricco nelle decorazioni. L'artista purtroppo rimane ignoto, ma è collocabile in ambito parmense."
