Title
Fragment of a copper alloy purse frame of probable Late Medieval date.
Description
English: Fragment of a copper alloy purse frame of probable Late Medieval date. Overall length 58mm, diameter 6mm. Weight 13.23g.

The frame is curved and is sub-circular in cross-section. At the apex of the curve is an attachment hole and at each end of the fragment a break has occurred mid-way through an attachment hole. Each of these attachment holes are of equal distance (30mm) from the complete attachment hole mid way along the length of the fragment, at the apex. The break at each end appears to be very old. Small patches of a mid-green patina are present. The underlying colour is reddish.

A copper alloy ?wire loop with parallel sides and rounded ends may be associated with the fragment of purse frame as the two items were found "together". The wire is about 1.5mm in diameter. At each junction between the parallel sides and the rounded ends is a sub-spherical swelling, each of which is about 3mm in diameter. Attached to the loop are two identical copper alloy rings, external diameter 7.5mm, internal diameter 5mm. Weight of the loop, 1.96g.
