Title
First day cover commemorating the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels
Description
Philatelic First Day Cover with printed cachet and stamp. Cachet depicts the Atomium monument from the 1958 World's Fair Exhibition in Brussel's Belgium. Designed by engineer André Waterkeyn (1917-2005) and architects André (1914-1988) and Jean Polak (1920-2012), the Atomium totaled more than 2,400 tons and represented a magnetized iron crystal cell. Intending to serve as a symbol for peace among nations even with great strides in atomic energy, the Atomium became a fixture of the 1958 Universal and International Exhibition. Includes a printed description of the fair and monument beneath the cachet. The stamp depicts an aerial view of the United States Pavillion of the exhibition.
