Deutsch: Firmenschild einer Optikerpraxis in Franko-Kanada, gesehen in der Stadt Magog (Provinz Québec). Die Abkürzung O.D. auf französisch steht für "Doctorat professionnel en optométrie de l’École d’optométrie" und bedeutet, dass der bezeichnete einen Doktor als Optiker absolviert hat.
Français : L’optométriste (O.D.) est un professionnel de la santé de première ligne, détenteur d’un doctorat universitaire de 5 ans, qui agit comme porte d’entrée des services oculovisuels. Il évalue la vision, la binocularité et la santé oculaire.

Son rôle est de procéder à l’examen des yeux et de la vision. Il peut également prescrire et administrer des médicaments aux fins de l’examen de la vision et du traitement de certaines pathologies oculaires.

L’optométriste prescrit les lentilles ophtalmiques nécessaires, qu’elles soient cornéennes ou pour lunettes, et des traitements de rééducation visuelle.
