He becamedeacon in 1901, and died Dec. 14, 1907.Burton Gr. Bryan was for many yearsthe efficient treasurer of the church, andhelpful to it in many ways. He died in1911. Lewis J. Atwood, one of our citysprominent manufacturers, a man of greatbusiness ability, who had come into thechurch during Dr. Beckwiths pastorate, was one of its efficient members in 1881.Although exceedingly devoted to the manwho received him into the church, hegave a somewhat hesitating hand of wel-come to his successor. But as time wenton that hand became warmer and gavea closer grasp. I came to lean upon himas a wise and gracious friend. In 1892he was elected deacon and served forseventeen years, dying in 1909, eightdays before Dr. Beckwith passed awayamong the Sandwich Islands.
