Description
Français : Gravure anonyme reproduisant un tableau d'Eugénie Servières intitulé "Valentine de Milan" présenté au Salon de Paris de 1822 (no 1191 du livret), appartenant alors à la duchesse de Berry.

La gravure a été publiée dans "La Guirlande des Dames", un almanach français d'Albéric Deville (9e année, 1823), accompagné de la description suivante :

"Après l’assassinat du duc d’Orléans, sa veuve inconsolable fit transporter dans son oratoire, l’armure, l’écharpe et l’épée de ce prince, et s’enferma, résolue de mourir, en arrosant de ses larmes les tristes restes de son époux. Elle résistait depuis trois jours à tous les efforts qu’on avait tentés pour l’arracher de ce lieu de douleur, lorsqu’on imagina d’y introduire l’aîné de ses enfans, le comte d’Angoulême. Ce moyen réussit ; la présence du jeune prince rapelle à l'infortunée Valentine, qu'elle n'a pas tout perdu, et vaincue par les instances de cet aimable enfant, elle se laissa entraîner en jetant un dernier regard sur les seuls objets qui lui restent de l'époux qu'elle a tant aimé.

Cet intéressant tableau est de Mme Servières et appartient à Mme la duchesse de Berry."

Notes Ce volume de La Guirlande des Dames contient aussi des vers de Mme de Pomaret, la Nouvelle Valentine et la Nouvelle Valentine au berceau de son fils établissant un parallèle entre Valentine Visconti, veuve du duc d'Orléans assassinée et mère de ses enfants, et la duchesse de Berry, veuve du duc de Berry assassiné de qui elle eut un fils posthume.
