Description

Statue d'Eros dit le Génie Borghese au Louvre.

La statue appartenait à Domenico Biondo, majordome du pape Paul V Borghèse. Elle entre en 1608 dans la collection de Scipion Borghèse (1576 - 1623). Les ailes, les bras et les jambes de l'Éros, jadis appelé Génie Borghèse, sont modernes. Au XVIIIe siècle, il est toujours très admiré, notamment par Winckelmann. Il fut encore considéré lors de l'acquisition par la France comme l'une des sept pièces les plus importantes de la collection Borghèse.
