English: for english legend, see : [1] This figure shows the per capita electricity use for the fifty states of the United States. (This image is an original work created for Global Warming Art.)
Français : Ce graphique montre la consommation d'électricité (toute l'électricité consommée dans chaque état, rapportée à une quantité moyenne par habitant) pour les cinquante états des États-Unis.


La couleur de chaque courbe désigne la majorité politique élu dans cet état lors des élections de 2000. Bleue si la majorité des votants a désigné Al Gore (un démocrate) ou rouge si la majorité des votants a désigné pour George W. Bush (un républicain) dans les 2000 élections présidentielles.
Le graphique met en évidence que les états majoritairement démocrates ont une plus forte propension à économiser l'électricité depuis le 1er choc pétrolier, alors que les États républicains ont continué à consommer de plus en plus d'électricité par personne (en moyenne).

Ceci avait déjà été pointé par Arthur Rosenfeld (Commissaire à l'énergie en Californie).
Après le 1er choc pétrolier de 1973, la Californie a lancé un programme ambitieux d'efficacité énergétique qui a porté des fruits, même s'il n'y a pas eu de réduction de la consommation. La Californie a grâce à cela presque stabilisé sa consommation. Elle est devenue l'état gaspillant le moins l'énergie aux États-Unis.

Les courbes sont toutes construites sur la base des données originales du "Energy Information Administration of the US Department of Energy"
