Description
English: <tbody></tbody>

A fragment of a copper alloy purse frame of early post-medieval date. Only part of one arm survives. This is retangular in form and C-shaped in cross section, but slightly bent out of shape. The outer face is decorated with groups of three diagonal grooves arranged in a cross-hatched pattern. In the centre of one side is a small circular hole, which would have allowed a fabric or leather purse to be held in place. The metal has a light green patina and there is a rough break at each end. Ward Perkins (1967, 162 - 167) Type A. Dating to c.1450-1550.
