Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ear-boring ceremony--Burma.
The boring of the ears is the first great event in her life that the Burmese woman remembers. She is the central point of interest in a crowd of friends and relations, and a band plays to drown her cries. A professional ear-borer sits ready at hand for the operation, waiting for the auspicious moment, which is announced by the astrologer after an inspection of the girl's horoscope.
