Description
English: Portrait of Charles Emmanuel IV of Sardinia (1751-1819) while the Prince of Piedmont
Italiano: Carlo Em IV ?. Il dipinto arriva nel Palazzo Reale di Torino nel 1930 proveniente da quello di Milano, ove era giunto da Parma nel 1865. Attribuito a Domenico Duprà (1689-1770) da A. Griseri (1963: Principino in tenuta da cacciatore), è stato in seguito considerato, sulla scorta della scritta del retro, il ritratto di Giuseppe Placido Benedetto conte di Moriana (1766-1802). E. Rossetti Brezzi (1980) però, confrontandolo con il pendant raffigurante Maria Anna Carlotta Gabriella (?) (Appartamento di Madama Felicita, sala dell'Udienza), data il quadro al 1762 e identifica il personaggio con Carlo Emanuele poi IV (1751-1819); si tratterebbe di uno dei ritratti commissionati a Domenico e Giuseppe Duprà per essere spediti a Don Filippo duca di Parma. Una variante è conservata a Stupinigi, con replica a Madrid, Patrimonio National.
