Description
Nederlands: De Frauenkirche aan de Neumarkt in Dresden is een Evangelisch-Lutherse kerk in hoogbarokke stijl die tussen 1726 en 1743 werd gebouwd. De kerk werd ontworpen door de Dresdener architect George Bähr (1666-1738). In de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de kerk tijdens het beruchte Bombardement op Dresden op 13-14 februari 1945 verwoest. Ten tijde van de DDR bleef de ruïne van de kerk als een permanente herinnering aan de verschrikkingen van de oorlog staan. Na de Wending begon men in 1994 met de wederopbouw. Op 30 oktober 2005 werd de kerk officieel opnieuw in gebruik genomen.
English: The Dresden Frauenkirche is a Lutheran church in Dresden. Built in the 18th century, the church was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The remaining ruins were left as a war memorial, following decisions of local East German leaders. The church was rebuilt after the reunification of Germany, starting in 1994. The church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005
