| Description |
Português: O Abutre do Egipto ou Britango Neophron percnopterus, ave necrófago presente entre março e setembro, período após o qual emigra para África central, foi escolhido como símbolo do PNDI. Trata-se de uma espécie ameaçada, com parte significativa da população nacional a nidificar nas arribas do Douro e Águeda em cavidades rochosas, como fendas ou pequenas grutas. O Abutre de Egipto associa-se também à região planáltica contígua onde a cerealicultura e pecuária extensivas lhe permitem obter e localizar com facilidade os cadáveres de animais de que se alimenta. |
