Description
English: Difference explained between American and European mains AC. Cause some people can't understand, why 200A main breaker in America gives the same power, like 63A main breaker in Europe.
  • First reason is simple - Americans use derivative from single phase system, but Europeans use 3-phase system.
  • Second reason is types of appliences: if electrical appliences are widespread in America, old buildings in Europe use gas appliences. For example, lot of apartment houses in ex-USSR countries have thick aluminium wiring and using of modern kettles and washing machines accompanied by the smell of burning insulation. It is easy to explain - those time stove, boiler and room heating were gas-powered and electric power need only to lamps and low-power сonsumer electronics like radios or TV sets. Nowadays there appeared powerful home appliences, which always make headache cause they require to replace wiring in all buildings.
