nck and Matheus Ziindt (q. v.),and one Mathes Zwikopf, a goldsmith of Munich,to whom Nagler is inclined to assign the printsinitialed M. z. The names Zagel, Zuigler, Zei-singer, have also been suggested. Duplessis andThaiising, however, speak confidently of the masterM. Z. as Mathaeus Zasinger, or Zatzinger. Theearliest date on his existing works is 1500, and heis thought not to have been alive after 1509. Themaster M. Z. is also said to have been a painterand pupil of Wolgemut. The following printsassigned to him are in the British Museum: 1. Solomon adoring Idols. (Dated 1501.) 2. Virgin and Child ( Mater Amabilis ). (Dated 1501.) 3. The Beheading of St. John Baptist. 4.
