Summary[edit]
DescriptionDickie Wells.jpg |
Dickie Wells was born in Centerville, Tennessee. He moved to New York City in 1926, and became a member of the Lloyd Scott band. Gottlieb, William P., 1917-, photographer. [Portrait of Dicky Wells, Eddie Condon's, New York, N.Y., ca. Jan. 1947] 1 negative : b&w ; 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. Caption from Down Beat: Dickie Wells and Henry Wells: There's justifiable confusion among many people over the Wells boys. Though not otherwise related, both Dickie and Henry play trombone, sing, and travel around in the same better jazz circles. Now, to add to the confusion, they're both playing in the same orchestra (Sy Oliver's). Dickie is, of course, the Wells famous for his hot blowing and Henry is the man many consider the finest of all straight ballad singers.
