Summary[edit]
DescriptionDia-Jewitt-full.gif |
English: Animation of two images of Jupiter's irregular moon Dia (S/2000 J 11), taken by David Jewitt using the 3.6-meter Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) on 9 December 2001. Each image was taken approximately 80 minutes apart. Dia is very faint in this image, with an apparent magnitude of 23.1. The raw image datasets used are 615453p, 615459p, and 615465p. The moon is not visible in the second frame due to scattered light from Jupiter's bright glare from the top left corner, which reduces the visibility of fainter stars and moons. Dia was only observed once in this image, and has not been observed since until its rediscovery in 2011. For comparison, the star field in these images can be viewed at the CDS's Aladin star atlas. |
