English: Datestones off Victoria Road, Elland These are from demolished houses in New Street (on the site of Brooksbank Gardens). They have late 18C dates, the oldest 1794, the house number and the first owner's name. New is relative; it is surprising how old places with 'new' in the name can be, including the medieval new towns. |
