The dune sands probably have their origin locally in the layered deposits of the cliffs. Sand that trickled out was picked up by the wind and formed into a huge field of dunes on the plain in the left half of the picture.

Deutsch: Vermutlich haben die Dünensande ihren Ursprung lokal in den geschichteten Ablagerungen der Klippen. Herausrieselnder Sand wurde vom Wind aufgenommen und auf der Ebene in der linken Bildhälfte zu einem riesiges Dünenfeld geformt. Im rechten Bildhintergrund sind zwei kleinere, von hellem Frost bedeckte Dünenfelder zu sehen, die ihren Ursprung ebenfalls in den nahegelegenen Geländekanten haben.
