Summary
[edit]DescriptionCreating the alfombra.jpg |
English: The town of La Orotava on Tenerife has a special tradition for the day of Corpus Christi. People create "alfombras", paintings of sand and flower petals, in the streets of the town. These paintings may or may not have religious topics, and take several hours to create from early in the morning. Alfombra makers, or alfombristas, are highly respected in the community. In the afternoon and evening, when all the alfombras are ready, people from all over the island come and admire them. In the evening, the streets are cleaned, the sand and the petals are taken up to Mount Teide and given back to nature.
