Title
Crawford and Harrington's wharf, 1882
Description

Transcribed from photograph: "Seattle Wharves. Crawford and Harrington's wharf. 1882. Copy of original photograph by Werner Lenggenhager." From the Pacific Coast Architecture Database: "Located just to the south of Yesler's Wharf, the Crawford and Harrington Company Wharf was a significant docking spot for cargo ships during the 19th century. The wharf's eastern half would now occupy filled land, crossing Alaskan Way to roughly the foot of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. At the pier's western end was a small shed belonging to the Talbot Coal Yard."

The image gives year 1882 but steamboat Teaser in foreground tentatively allows this photograph to be dated as between 1875, when Teaser was sent to Puget Sound by the Oregon Steam Navigation Company, and 1879, when Teaser sank. While Teaser was later raised, the vessel was converted to a sealing schooner, which the vessel shown in this image does not appear to be.
