Summary

[edit]
Description

This image, courtesy of #NIH National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences scientist Mario Borgnia, shows a detailed structural image of the novel coronavirus' spike protein. These sorts of images can provide extremely useful information about how the virus infects cells and whether lab-produced antibodies or other molecules can bind to and inhibit it. ⠀⠀

Producing images like this one takes a large amount of computing power. Fortunately, NIH researchers have access to #Biowulf, the world's most powerful #supercomputer solely dedicated to biomedical research. Visit the "I Am Intramural" blog to learn more about how Dr. Borgnia and other NIH scientists are utilizing Biowulf to assist the fight against COVID-19
