English: Cork oak display, Kew Gardens; In the Mediterranean garden is this display with a small cork oak (Quercus suber) growing in the centre, a large cork oak tree trunk on the left, an information board, and a glass-fronted box showing real corks from bottles, plastic corks, and screw tops. See 1220722 for a detailed photo f the tree trunk showing the bark. The diminishing use of natural corks for bottles is putting the trees cultivated in Spain, Portugal and North Africa under threat - see a paper
