It not only calls foran intimate knowledge of nature, but also an infinite amountof patience in its execution, both of which are difficult mat-ters for the beginner. 289. Narrow Angle Lens the Best.—The most commonfault which presents itself in the handling of the foregroundis derived from the use of a lens of too wide an angle, sothat too much of the immediate foreground is included.The distance is thrown back too far, and when the print ismade it requires a considerable amount of trimming awayof the foreground. Thus, a long narrow picture seems moreartistic, because of its shape; whereas its pleasing effect ischiefly due to its giving the impression of a narrow angle ofview.
