Summary

[edit]
Description

Sevelamer is a resin that acts as a phosphate binder. It is used to treat chronic renal failure. Sevelamer helps prevent hypocalcemia caused by elevated phosphorus. It typically has a yellowish color and parallel reddish lines that are often referred to as “fish scales”. Mucosal injury may occur in some patients. A large fragment of vegetable material is present beneath the Sevelamer. Plant resins may exhibit a very similar appearance to Sevelamer. Therefore, it is important to try to obtain a history of Sevelamer therapy to support the diagnosis.
