Summary[edit]

Description
English: Coach House, West Tower, Mill Lane. This was the coach house to a splendid country house built in a stunning position on Mill Lane near Aughton (SD3805). West Tower was built in 1785 as the country residence of shipping magnate Lord Alfred Holt and the location was chosen for its commanding views over the Mersey estuary and as far as the mountains of North Wales. The famous tower was incorporated into the house so Lord Holt could observe his liners sailing past Formby Point. It is now a country house hotel and restaurant and the lodge is a private residence.
