I'm pretty sure this is Highway 46, and that's 41 turning off to the left. This is the infamous spot where James Dean died in a crash between his Porsche 550 and an American sedan. You can find out more than you'll want to know about it other places on the net. I can't say whether I noticed this resembled the famous spot, I had to look at a map to realize this was 46 and 41... my guess would have put this picture further west. But map-reading my way around made it plain why we picked-up Alan in Paso Robles (San Luis Obispo is further south and has no direct path to highway 5), so we had to be on 46, and 46 comes out at Interstate 5 where I expected. And 41 is the only significant highway to intersect 46 from the north. So this is it.
