Description
English: An old map of Paris, France. Administrative atlas of France, one volume in 2 parts consists of 417 maps and views of each government, province and the principal cities, including 2 folded sheets. Includes dedication text and descriptive text. Engraved title page and index precede each map section. Maps include decorative cartouches, bar scales, compass roses, and small vignettes of ships. Showing bird's eye views of cities and towns, including, surrounding topography, forests, landmarks, forts, waterways, canals, bridges, mountains and ports. Relief shown by hachues and pictorially. Plate 1-206 are numbered in upper right, according to placement in each section. The first plate of pt. 1 ("Carte generale de France") is repeated as the first plate in pt. 2. Some plates bound out of sequence. Bound in vellum, with handwritten title ”Plans des principal villes de France” on spine. Each town or area is given multiple cartographic presentations: map, plan, view, fortress.
