LETTUCE An indispensable vegetable—certainly the finest salad plant known. Easily grown, either in hot-bed or garden, and can be sown very early. South of Mason and Dixon's line can be sown in the open ground in fall, and needs only a slight protection of straw or loose litter to be per- fectly hardy. We wish to call special attention to our two superior varieties. Half-Century and Half-Century Crisphead. If you have never tried them a real pleasure and satisfaction awaits you. Childs' Half-Century Lettuce—the Far-Famed We all know how much careful selection year arter year has to do with the quality or our vegetables, but there are few things that claim a half-century descent rrom only the choicest and best specimens or one type. This Lettuce can do so, however, and we are not surprised, therefore, at its superior qualities. Its leaves fold together, forming a long, loose head, remarkable for tenderness and delicate flavor. It may seem a good deal to say, but it is, nevertheless, a fact that for tenderness, brittleness and delicious quality this Lettuce grown in the open ground surpasses any other sort grown under glass. Nothing ran approach it in quality. It is so brittle and tender that its leaves break to pieces in handling, ir care is not used. It is a quick grower, attaining its rull size In forty to fifty days, and remains in fine condition for a long time. Pkt., 5c; oz., 10c; lb., 91.30. Childs' Half-Cei fcury Crisphead Lettuce—the Perfect It is with much pleasure we offer a sport from our famous Hair-Century Lettuce, that produces a large, solid head. It has murh the same characteristics or the Half-Century, beine exceedingly crisp, brittle and unsurpassed in flavor; but it is a true heading variety, forming a solid head, as large as a small Cabbage. It is superior to all other head varieties in superb quality, a quick grower and long keeper. The Calirornia expert growers or Lettuce say that "Crisphead" is the longest-keeping head variety in cultivation. The value or this cannot be overestimated. Its <uperb quality makes it the finest Lettuce Tor the home garden, which, with its long-keeping quality, must make it the best and most popular sort Tor market growing. It is one of the best new vegetables ever intro- duced. Pkt., IOC; oz., 25c; lb., $2.00. Your Hair-Centurv Crisphead Lettuce is the finest For years 1 have grown Your Half-Century Lettuce, thing ever. Had good bed or it last year, and delighted and have found none equal to it.—Mrs. Harry White, the neighbors as well as ourselves.—F. S. Header, .New .North Andover. Mass. Brighton, Pa.
