Description

O Chiado é um largo em Lisboa e o nome dado à zona circundante, entre o Bairro Alto e a Baixa de Lisboa.

O nome Chiado é muitas vezes usado para designar apenas a Rua Garrett, a principal artéria comercial da zona, que tinha essa designação e que, posteriormente, foi rebaptizada com o nome do escritor e poeta Almeida Garrett. A rua, que desce do Largo do Chiado para a Baixa, é bem conhecida pelas suas lojas, cafés e livrarias. A zona, devastada pelo fogo em 1988, está a ser restaurada gradualmente. Origens do nome São muitas as hipóteses para a palavra Chiado, usada desde 1567, uma das mais interessantes refere-se ao chiar das rodas das carroças que subiam as íngremes vertentes. Uma segunda refere-se à alcunha ao poeta do século XVI, António Ribeiro, O Chiado. <a href="http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiado">pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiado</a>
