Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Lion, built c.1505, was a ship fitted out for warfare which was used as a privateer sanctioned by James IV and his Royal Scottish Navy. It plundered Portuguese ships from French port bases, and was detained for for piracy by the Dutch authorities at Veere. Lion was captured by the English in 1511 and renamed HMS Lion. Painted by Charles Edward Dixon.
