Dawn was at a distance of 21,000 miles (33,000 kilometers) when its framing camera took these images. Click here for animation of PIA19317 http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/archive/PIA19317.gif This animation shows the north pole of dwarf planet Ceres as seen by the Dawn spacecraft on April 10, 2015. Dawn was at a distance of 21,000 miles (33,000 kilometers) when its framing camera took these images. The spacecraft was maneuvering toward its first science orbit, which it will enter on April 23, 2015. A processed still image is also available, showing Ceres as a crescent. Dawn's mission is managed by JPL for NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Dawn is a project of the directorate's Discovery Program, managed by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. UCLA is responsible for overall Dawn mission science. Orbital ATK, Inc., in Dulles, Virginia, designed and built the spacecraft. The German Aerospace Center, the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, the Italian Space Agency and the Italian National Astrophysical Institute are international partners on the mission team.
